TheBoatApp v5: One-Account, One-Subscription. More features, increased quotas, unlimited records, alerts and more

Ahoy fellow sailors,

The evenings are drawing in, and for many of you the haul-out list is already creeping onto the back of the chart table (...for us Northerners at least!). Ever noticed how a boat is never really run by one person? There is the skipper, the co-skipper, the partner who knows where every winch handle hides, the friend who always volunteers to join. So why should your boat data pretend otherwise?

The digital shipyard has been very busy, and we are proud to say we have cast off the lines on our biggest release yet: Organisations. Your boats and data now belong to an organisation, and the whole crew sails together. Here is what is new, by theme.

One Account, One Subscription

The big change: plans are moving from per-boat to per-account. One plan now covers the whole account, so there is one subscription, one plan and one crew, with no confusion at the dock.

New plans, increased quotas: Essentials covers 1 boat, PLUS up to 2 boats and 5 users, and PRO up to 5 boats and 20 users. Whatever the plan, records and alerts are unlimited, so you never have to stop logging because the log is full.

Subscription & Billing, inside the app: under Settings on the web dashboard you will find the plan page, showing your current plan and usage (boats, storage and members). The Billing tab lets you edit your personal details. All within the app.

Your Crew, Your Organisation

Organisations: your boats and data now live inside an organisation, on both the mobile app and the web dashboard. Use the switcher to change organisation, and the app syncs that organisation's data before you carry on, so you always sail on fresh charts.

Manage organisation: every member can see the organisation and its crew, and can leave if their course takes them elsewhere. The owner is the skipper: rename the organisation, invite members, remove members and cancel pending invitations, all from one screen.

Pick your crew from the roster: skippers, co-skippers and task assignees are now chosen from the organisation's members, so the right name lands on the right job, every time.

Boats On or Off, No More Licences

Turn boats on or off: boat licences are gone. The owner now simply switches a boat on or off from its page. A switched-off boat opens as read-only with a friendly banner explaining why. You can still delete its records, and it no longer counts toward your plan's boat limit.

Export disabled boats: the export dialogue on the web dashboard has an "Include disabled boats" option, so nothing gets left on the dock.

Find Anything, See Everything

Calendar: a brand-new calendar screen in the mobile menu shows your trips, tasks and inventory by day. One glance and you know what the week holds.

Global search: on the web dashboard press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K, or click the header search box, and search on every module at once. Results are grouped by module with full keyboard navigation. Tasks, costs, inventory, logbook and alerts also each get their own search box.

Sort-memory(!): sorting the inventory list from the filter sheet on mobile, and the web tables for inventory, tasks, costs and alerts, now remembers your sort when you leave and come back.

Checklists, Ready to Sail

Checklist templates: start a new checklist blank, or from a ready-made template that brings its items, notes, cover photo and files along for the ride.

Cover photos: add a cover photo when creating or editing a checklist on mobile, and it shows on the checklist cards.

Shipshape Under the Waterline

Plenty of boat chores and then some: buttons have a new consistent style across the app, notifications open on the "All" tab by default, headers on the web dashboard stay put while you scroll, and manage screens and checklists now show a banner naming the record whenever the server rejects a change. We also fixed a good number of snags, from inventory sorting to checklist covers and large offline changes that could get stuck in the upload queue, and upgraded the mobile app's foundations for better stability.

A tonne of work has also been done on other features, updates and fixes. You may always see everything that is released in the public Changelog.

Closing, I wish you well, with as many miles as you wish under your keel, good health and safe cruising, with an always seaworthy boat!

Best Marine Regards,

George & TheBoatApp Crew
