Sharing

Sharing is caring! Share your a whole boat or selectively your inventory, tasks, checklists, documents, etc. You decide who needs to know what.
The Sharing feature in TheBoatApp allows boat owners to grant access to their boat(s) to other registered users of the platform, enabling seamless collaboration in the management and operation of a vessel. Rather than keeping all boat data siloed within a single account, Sharing transforms TheBoatApp into a true collaborative tool — whether you need a co-owner, a trusted skipper, a crew member, a mechanic, or a marina manager to view or contribute to your boat's records.
This feature removes the friction of managing a boat alone, ensuring that everyone involved with a vessel has access to the right information, at the right time, from any device — online or offline. The result is better coordination, improved safety, reduced errors, and a shared sense of responsibility across all parties involved with the boat's upkeep and operation.
  • Invite users to your boat — Send invitations to other TheBoatApp users directly from your boat's profile, granting them access with just a few taps.
  • Role-based access control — Assign different permission levels (e.g. viewer, editor) to each shared user, ensuring that sensitive data is only editable by authorised individuals.
  • Multi-user collaboration — Multiple users can access and contribute to the same boat simultaneously, keeping logbook entries, maintenance records, checklists, and inventory up to date collaboratively.
  • Shared logbook — Crew members or co-skippers can log trips and entries directly into the boat's logbook, providing a complete and accurate record of all voyages.
  • Shared maintenance & tasks — Assigned users can view, update, and complete maintenance tasks and alerts, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks regardless of who is on board.
  • Shared inventory & documents — All shared users can access the boat's inventory lists and uploaded documents (manuals, certificates, insurance, etc.), reducing the need to forward files manually.
  • Shared checklists — Crew can run and tick off checklists collaboratively, improving pre-departure and on-board safety procedures.
  • Owner retains full control — The boat owner always remains the administrator, with the ability to add or remove shared users at any time, maintaining full oversight of who can access their data.
  • Works across all devices — Shared access is available on web, iOS, and Android, so every user can collaborate from their preferred device, online or offline.
